Cheryl is Presenting at the 2016 EAGALA National Conference!
March 2016 -- I am honored to once again be selected to make a presentation at the EAGALA National Conference, held this year in Lexington, Kentucky! Topic:
I Can’t Use Your Map to Find My Way! Identifying and Managing your (‘S) “Stuff”
(aka Navigating Your “Social Map”) by Cheryl Eriksen, MSW. (Peace Horse Learning
Center/ Path of the Peace Horse, KY) APA, NCC
Who am I and how did I get here? The concept of the “social map” refers to the process each of us uses to make sense of the world. The construction of the social map begins at birth via inputs from the primary caregiver (primary socialization) and continues throughout the developmental years via inputs from outside the home (secondary socialization). Because each of us experiences different inputs during development, each essentially has their own version of reality.
Incorporating the “social map” in EAGALA Model sessions can further enhance our skills as facilitators with regard to helping clients find their own solutions. And it is vital we are able to understand the contents of our own social map in order to avoid unintentional conflict with the client experience. Gain understanding of how our “social map”can deepen our awareness of our ’S and further highlight the importance of cleanly-worded questions in EAGALA sessions.
