Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is just what it sounds like -- learning with the help of horses. People who have worked with horses know of the emotional, physical, mental, and educational benefits of spending time with them.
Horses have a way of bringing out our true selves and showing us who we really are. Horses are amazing teachers and the applications of EAL are as deep and diverse as the individuals we help through our programs.
You don't need any prior horse experience to benefit from EAL -- actually, those with much horse experience and those with no horse experience both have found great benefit to participating in EAL programs.

How does EAL work? Many people ask this and it is not an easy question to answer. The best way to understand how EAL works is to experience it.
To help you understand just how EAL works, take a look at the picture to the left. What is going on here? Spend a few moments to jot down what comes to mind for you. What kinds of things came up for you? Any emotions, thoughts, memories?
Now show this same picture to a few other people and ask them to do the same. Afterward, discuss what each person wrote. What is similar? What is different? If you show this picture to six other people you will get six different answers. It is because each individual is drawing on their own life experiences and making their own personal connections and discoveries.
This is what we do in EAL. Through interacting with the horses in a variety of activities you begin to discover your own story, discover and strengthen your personal skills, understand how your communication is received by others, and so much more. The possibilities are endless!
