Energy and body work for you horse, specializing in horses with behavioral issues and trauma. Cheryl uses a variety of techniques, letting the horse and her intuition guide the sessions. Horses have experienced physical and emotional release, improved posture, reduced physical and emotional discomfort, increased relaxation, reduced anxiety, and improvements in behavior related to pain and/or anxiety.
Through decades of working with, observing, training, foaling, and caring for literally thousands of horses, I've developed a high sensitivity to equine energy as a means to communicate with and help the horse. This communication and intuition guides each session. My techniques are gentle and non-invasive--using Reiki, sometimes combined with light touches, as well as tools designed to increase the horse's proprioception and body awareness.
Sessions may include*:
Reiki
Fascial blading
Sure Foot Stability Pads

Reiki
Reiki promotes relaxation, and reduces stress and anxiety through gentle touch. The word Reiki comes from the word "rei" which means universal and "ki" which refers to the energy life force moving through all living things. Practitioners believe Reiki can improve the flow of energy around the body which can enable relaxation, relieve pain, speed healing, and reduce other symptoms of illness. Reiki is a complimentary practice and should not be used in place of veterinary care. Learn more about Reiki from this Cleveland Clinic article.
Fascial Blading
Fascial blading is a form of gentle, instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization. The "blade" acts as an extension of the practitioner's hand, helping her identify scar tissue adhesions and gently break down fascial restrictions. It can help reduce pain and improve function. I find it extremely effective before or even during a Reiki session for promoting relaxation, and relieving pain and tension in the horse. Learn more about fascial blading here.
Sure Foot Stability Pads
Developed by Wendy Murdoch and endorsed by veterinarians and practitioners world wide. The SURE FOOT Pads challenge your horse’s balance, activate proprioception, work the small postural muscles, and creates awareness. Horses have experienced relaxation, release of tension, reduced anxiety, improved posture and movement, and increased body awareness. The pads have also been used for helping the horse remain in their body and "below threshold" (keeping them thinking instead of blowing up) during training and handling situations. Check out this video veterinary endorsement.
Specialized Touch Techniques
A combination of gentle touch techniques to enhance communication and connection with the horse. These techniques are complimentary to the other modalities. Just like with training, not every method is right for every situation. I let the horse and my own intuition guide the use of these techniques.

Behavior and Communication
Horses are always communicating with us, but, because they don't use words like we do, much of what they say is missed by their human friends. Behavior is communication--horses don't act out of spite or "misbehave" to be naughty. When a horse is acting out, he is trying to tell you something. I have spent decades observing horse behavior and picking up the subtle ways they communicate. While some of what I do is intuitive communication, much of it is honed from ten years working as a horse mid-wife where noticing subtle differences in posture, facial tension, head position, breathing, or how the horse "holds" themselves says as much to me about what is going to happen that night as if the mares had spoken aloud to me.
Listening to the horse is an important part of each session. Once they figure out what I am doing, many of them will physically position themselves to ask me to work on a specific area. They will show great interest in my hands and begin to "direct" where I place them.

"I believe many horses are holding tension within their bodies from past trauma (physical and emotional). This can be from their own past or even an absorption of the energy coming from the people around them. This tension over time can present as "mysterious" unsoundness, general lack of engagement, listlessness, shutting down (dissociation), anger/aggressiveness, excessive reactivity, anxiety, and other behaviors that often label a horse as difficult or crazy. One of my goals is to help these misunderstood horses reconnect with themselves and the humans who love them."
